Whether you have generic suggestions, population-specific suggestions, philosophical approaches rather than specific suggestions, or whatever, I'd like to hear your thoughts.

Don't buy smart appliances, they spy on you, buy an older model without a computer built in and use Sears or some other appliance repair company to fix it. It will be cheaper than a smart appliance.

Car: buy a Honda or Toyota and take care of it, regular maintenance and oil changes. Not that nothing will ever go wrong, but they're more reliable and cheaper to fix than many other cars.

Bidet: gets you cleaner and save on toilet paper

Socks: buy a bunch of the same type. Don't have to worry about them matching or losing one

Buy a storage shed instead of a rental unit if you have space. More expensive upfront, but you're not paying in perpetuity with no return. Also more convenient and less likely to get broken into.

  1. In cold climates, a remote car starter and a gas powered snow blower.
  2. Avoid anything where tech is stuffed/forced into it. IE a smart fridge, WiFi enabled toasters.

An angle grinder. Go through absolutely anything when you need to without negotiating. I only use it about once every two months. But if I count the hours it replaced, that's a lot of hours.

I'd challenge you to buy less things. That's how you have a hassle free life.

A phone with a physical keyboard. A bullet journal, Japanese style planner, or todo list. I like planning out my days in the morning using pen and paper only, no Internet for a little bit.

A pool boy.

I keep telling my wife she should get one, but she doesn't believe me. We also don't have a pool.
