Is there a way to browse all subs?
Is there a way to subscribe to subs?
Is there a way to select and order subs in the top bar, i.e., to customize it for what I'd prefer to check on most often?
Is there a way to create new subs? (I'm assuming the answer to this one is something like "once you've been here long enough and demonstrated you're not a spammer".)
If any of these is possible, the way to do them is not obvious. My "settings" only shows display settings, block and friendlists, and a heading (but no content) for "Manage Badges". And looking at my user page shows a list of posts I've made, but nothing else.
I was a sporadic user of SaidIt, and found this while trying to find out what it went dark. Answers appreciated.
Hi. Welcome.
So the default is browsing all subs. Right now we don't have a subscribe to sub feature, so what most people would think of being /all is the only view besides looking at a sub directly. Sub's get created when you post to it.
So in a way they are more like topics. They are case insensitive. Using PascalCase is recommended for aesthetics. Like this, /s/OneGroovySub. But no one is forcing you to use that. On the top bar you can see 'Top Subs'. That's what people post to the most. The top few have been posted to today, then this week, then this month, then this year, ordered by how many posts they get a year. That means what's relevant today is on top. The code that finds those subs also does the drop down auto-fill. That just has a longer threshold. You can do any sub you want but the ones that show up are the most popular.
I should probably make the manage badges section only show up if you have some since most users don't. Badges are handed out for various reasons. Usually just to give someone bling for something cool that sets them apart. The manage badges section just lets you turn off their visibility if you don't want to wear your bling where others can see it. But badges are also a part of the permission system for people with advanced permissions. For example a badge of any type let's people have more controls in the player in chat that's sometimes on.

I suspect the main reasons comments are so limited here is that there's no way of viewing all your past comments or other's comments. A profile tab that would show comments sorted by created descending with links that would open the full thread the comment was in would be great. I had a lot more conversations on Saidit even though the user base was way smaller.
This is probably my number one request. I don't like to spam feature requests too often, but I think this one is worthy.
Noted. When I see a feature request, even if I've seen it before, it goes into my todo system. But I do note about 70 tasks a day and get done about 10. I merge everything from personal life to development in there. Tasks do get passed forward. Right now I'm working on some new cdn balancing features for gvid.
For clarity it might be worth making distinctions. Some of these may not be practical or wanted, but I'm listing them so we can cross them off or not, and they might lead to better ideas, or be added to the feature wish list.

Thanks for the answers. Creating a sub by posting to a sub that doesn't exist yet is nifty, but not intuitive.
I've been checking in here off and on for a while. And I have the same questions. And why did saidit go dark?
