I wouldn't talk either if my life was threatened and others involved were mysteriously dead/killed.
The point is that that wording obviously implies he was involved before. And his birth name matches, although he hadn't used that name in 40 years which made it obscure enough that perhaps he was comfortable using it.
If it is his birth name I wonder if it's just a fluke of fate, or they were influenced to borrow it and imposed this dilemma on him. Also, if true, he would have become a much bigger deal than he is, whether he wanted it or not.
The name has deeper symbolic and actual meanings too, allegedly, though at the moment I forget them and don't speak Japanese to know double meanings. I don't think there was anything as obvious as an anagram, but was something like that.

I think he is more of a Mascot than a real Person, like Ronald McDonald.
