If all of us produce the equivelent of one store shelf worth of goods a day, then we should be able to purchase that same number of goods. But when you have welfare some people are buying part of that shelf while you are at work. Now you and fellow workers have to bid for the remainder of the shelf. If you both earn the same and have the same purchasing power, you need to split a smaller shelf.
You could pay zero taxes and you would still be paying the welfare tax.
I saw this when Obama gave first time home buyers an $8k grant. All houses immediately went up on average by $8 k.

If you give free money to the rich, or tax cuts, it doesn't affect the economy much because there's less rich people, relatively speaking. And trickling down does exist, very slowly, trickle up doesn't work, giving money to the poor, because it just causes inflation. And makes people lazy.
