The funny thing about the abiogenic hypothesis is then it opens a logical route for global warming fears to maybe be legitimate. Otherwise not. If oil only came from carbon fixing life, then if you burned all of the oil you'd only be returning carbon that was once in the atmosphere. It would be unlikely to end up at a level where life was in-viable.
But if oil is abiogenic then you don't have that cap.
That and maximally drive voter impulse through hysterics. Honesty and the psychological well being of their target population be damned.
This is the other reason I hate republican democracy with unlimited government. Every 4 years (or more often), we run an insanity machine. Think about how much more stable people would be generally if we didn't have billion dollar programs trying to maximize hysteria. At the very least if we required IQ >120 to vote, the majority of the population would be spared psychological operations and could focus on living their actual lives (and have better election outcomes). Cost/Benefit ratio would be better.
Can civilization exist without religion? Without rulers taking advantage of fear of the unknown? The hysteria is misplaced so akin to religion. But I think the elites feel they have to exaggerate, because otherwise they'll lose power.
