I like a more tech-oriented portal but it seems like the filtering is too aggressive. Oftentimes it says there are comments but I can't see any when I open the thread. Moreover, nothing appears on /c/UX so that shows tech posts are caught as well.

Is this intended behaviour? I'm not sure if this is some algorithm that's filtering more than intended or simply a bug. If the filtering is intended could you add the option to reveal hidden content?

Well obviously. That is the concept.

It does involve actively adjusting the lists. It is super aggressive. It is supposed to be. That 100% matches my description of it. It's a curated selection. The way to see something different is to go to a different party. Duh.

That's like going on a curated group cheese-tasting tour in Paris and then asking why Kraft Singles aren't there. Can't the group get some Kraft singles? How do I open up the Kraft Singles option? If that's what you want, then obviously pick a different tour.

I may need to update it a touch. When I made the current lists, the site was almost all news, to hit the submatrix target it had to be pretty clamped.

Then also, it's not managed that frequently, so it's done with broad strokes. Here is the number 1 rule with parties. No one is owed any presence at any party. This will be a bit better when I open up party creation to everyone. That's the top thing I'm working on.

I added recalibrating Submatrix to my todo. I haven't done it in about two weeks.

Also, the goal with parties is they will be group managed. Submatrix is just a sample. When the real ones come out, managed by you guys, teams should be able to update parties more frequently if they want to.

But yes, Submatrix is a pretty tight velvet rope. That's it's job. With me not having updated it in a while there may be things on both sides of the rope that need to go to the other side.
