In university 30+ years ago I took Zen Buddhism. My prof wrote a book about how Jesus, during his "lost" years, may have travelled East to learn Buddhism, etc. I had a copy once. Not sure what happened to it. Forget the prof's name. Remember a lot of Buddhism as I studied it before that and since.
Another interesting thing that came across my feed last week or two. Gary Snyder was the main character inspiration for Jack Kerouac's Dharma Bums, my fave of his books. (Neal Cassidy was another influential historical figure, not just the crossover beatnik to hippie, for another discussion.) Snyder not only studied culture, history, etc. of Japan, but also spoken history, legends, myths, etc. and their origins around the world crossing continents. I have some of his books (I am fascinated by the First Nations' Pacific Northwest art, culture, and history) - and recently in passing learned Snyder catalyzed a new religious take that may lead to being deeper than history would let on. I'll have to dig that up if I can.
The beatnik and hippie movements were not as organic as "they" would have us believe. Culture, religion, etc. too.
The Therapeutae were the original Illuminati and they were influenced by Buddhism. They influenced early Christianity.
