Anyone can steal the idea. The premise is simple. It's a short about some crooks in a van. But a good number of them are inviting last minute friends to the job. We can call it too many crooks.
We already have this in Australia. It's called the collapse of the construction industry. You can see when 10 chinese people crawl out of a van to do a job in 2 days, that used to take a handful of us skilled people 2 weeks to do. Then 2 years later the house needs to be rebuilt.
Its a bit of a different dynamic here. Given that we do not have a south america. The aboriginals here are not a numbers problem, so its all immigration. Which is mostly china and sand lands.
And you could do it in a Too Many Cooks style where it just goes on an on and on and on with various riffs on the theme.
Character types + scenario riffs and spoofs:
junkies and scum, desperation and villainy
cat burglars
Cat Woman
stereotypical mafia mobsters
stereotypical Jewish mafia
Ocean's Eleven
politicians, CEOs, billionaires
lazy socialists
migrant workers from Home Depot
MANY cartoon characters who steal cereal
crowded clown car + clown world + Pepe kek
stop for snacks & washroom break
road trip
North American tour
Uber driver / DoorDash driver gags
Taxi Driver / Thelma & Louise / F1 / driver movie references
A-Team / Knight Rider / Dukes Of Hazard / retro driver TV show references
build a large van interior set to shoot on, like the Tardis, bigger on the inside
features of an RV interior with all the amenities (and retro kitch sexytime bed?)
party in the van (like a standup limo but much larger for more folks) + DJ + disco lights
crowd gets bigger and bigger
would have to bring it back to the original concept, with just a van (exterior shot) where everyone exits the van (easy composite shot)
But what is the heist? The American Dream?
This is a story to develop.
A simpler concept could be developed and shot. With success, could go bigger.
But the fantastical scenarios would require much more time/money/effort/talent to produce - and could be worth it.
Or - some or all of it could be done with A.I.
Busy weekend planned but I can throw this on Projex to further develop.

Are chinks the same as spics?

Great premise seed!

Exactly. Before we go on a road trip we need to make full use of the van. It needs to be piled.
Maybe there is a way once the cops are called and they call for layers on layers of backup it can be emphasized that cops are another kind of crook.
Too many kooks*.
