The other routes to the area is across Saudi Arabia into the Red Sea, or across Jordan and Israel to the Mediteranian. Or the most simple but still in the region, across Oman just jumping past the straight. Of course that can't handle the same volume. But that just means the price point will sit at the top of the demand curve.
His one flaw is thinking the petro-dollar isn't a myth. It's a lie we tell ourselves to justify foreign involvement. The real base value of the US dollar is the same as any other fiat. It's a tax payment token within the US tax prison. Same thing that make CAD or EUR or any other fiat have value.
