Earlier, I asked you all for ideas on how we could encourage more poll creation.

One idea I had while making that thread was to add buttons to the text post submission page for Matrixdown commands (markdown extensions that start with a bang !) that people tend to miss, including inline poll creation.

I saw Jason made some use of it. Very nice! Was this a positive addition? And more importantly, do you have any ideas for how it can be done better?

Also, as of a few minutes ago, I added a +1 bonus for posts that include a poll. So posts with polls will get a tiny head start on accumulating points.

The key metric I'm trying to increase is the number of unique users who create polls each month.

One idea that is on the table but hasn't happened yet is adding more configuration options to polls, which you can alter after creating them. Post-facto setting of these options just works better with inline poll creation. Some of these options might include keeping the option order static or setting a per-user vote limit.

Try out the new buttons and tell me what you would do to improve it.

If you are really set on the idea of upvotes and downvotes on poll items, you should make them visibly a radio button pair (circles) rather than just checkboxes.

I see what you are saying. I chose check boxes because radio buttons aren't really designed to have none selected. They are for having one and exactly one selected. I could hack it, but by default a radio button won't let you unselect something by clicking on it.
