Good news, everyone! We have a new page. You can now look back through your comments, or someone else's!

Just go to the user page, and in the sidebar, you will see "User comments". Now you can see which of your comments got the most attention, at least in the voting department.

Woooo!
Update as I was writing this. I added a reply count as well. That's handy because this site has fewer but more active users who are more likely to comment rather than vote on a comment. Reddit has an army of lurkers who do the opposite. Now you are less likely to get bummed out by a page full of zeros. I'd like to eventually also add a count of how many new replies you have both for direct and indirect comments.

Now you can scan your /usercomments/ page for a sense of how effective your comment was more easily than trying to find a post you commented on from the front page.

FYI. I'm still trying to find where I want to put the reply counts. I tried a few places, but I wasn't a fan of any of them. But there are a few more formats I could try. I'll likely still play around with the placement.

If you have any other ideas you have, let me know.

When can we see our Karma?

[-]x0x72(+2|0)

I'm not against the idea. I've seen debate about that one in both directions. But I've gotten mostly comments saying it's refreshing there is no karma. We could make it a poll. I'm indifferent myself.

I'd love to hear people's arguments.

I did make it so you need to sign in to see someone else's comments. But I could make it so you can only see your own. For that very reason that's what my instinct says in terms of how it should work. But it is the standard feature on most of these sites to be able read other people's comments feed. And it's also what people asked for. Why anyone would want to read someone else's comments devoid of context is beyond me. But people want it.

Pro:
People asked for it
It's standard
Could be used to glance over a user and decide quicker if you want to block them
Maybe can be used to find a past comment from memory if you don't know what post it was to

Con:
Enables fed scrolling
Most comment pages for most users would be silly to read without context, unless you just like reading words

I could be convinced to make it available only for the user themselves or only for badged users as an inbetween, or whatever people want to argue for.

The "parent" link doesn't seem to work. I'm guessing that's where the further context would lead.

It would be good to have a "Are you sure?" before you actually "delete" a comment.

Would be nice to see if you've voted the comment. (A neutral third vote could indicate that you've seen it, but aren't for or against.)

Would be great to have a site-wide comments feed (with votes) - to see what conversations you've missed.

I got the parent link to work. Good catch.

Can you make it voluntary by adding a check box on the settings, or similar?

[-]x0x71(+1|0)

I like the idea. Only remaining question is what is the setting default? Most people will never touch it so whichever we pick will be 90%.

[-]JasonCarswell1(+1|0)

I dislike the idea.

The internet is forever. ZZZTheyZZZ have the info already. Why shouldn't we?

Say it like you mean it.

What does the graphic mean?

Can we have a neutral vote? It doesn't add, it doesn't subtract, it just marks that we've seen it. Obviously not everyone will utilize it. Not everyone votes either. Those who use it can at least indicate that it's not good, nor is it bad, indicate that it's been seen, and mark it for themselves that they've already read that comment. (I look for new comments I didn't vote on in conversations.)

Updates:

I got the 'parent' and 'link' links to work properly.
