This is for the movie night Saturday August 17th here: https://cytu.be/r/matrixhub

And while we are mentioning it don't forget about Music Night on Thursday starting whenever people feel like showing up, at the same place.

This poll has a lot of options. You can upvote, you can downvote, and you can even pick the time we start. I've set it so you can edit your vote. There is a >50% chance I'll come through and whittle this down to fewer options, so this is kind of a nomination phase. Downvotes count 2x btw.

Piranha (1978) - The sequel was directed by James Cameron. Back to back would be good.

Edge of Tomorrow - epic. Sequel is in the works.

The Wrong Guy (1997) - We at Topix under Robin did the opening credits on that! A+++ FUNNY!!! If you like Kids In The Hall and Canadian content...

The Owl and the Pussycat (1970) - - TIL interesting 6.4/10 on IMDb.

Valmont (1989) - great, by Milos Forman (also did the epic Amadeus) was the second adaptation of Dangerous Liaisons a brilliant novel (I only read the English translation).

Forbidden World (1982) - - TIL interesting 5.1/10 on IMDb. Not to be confused with the classic epic Forbidden Planet (1956) 7.5/10.

Deliverance (1972) - https://duckduckgo.com/?q=Revolting+Cocks+Beers+Steers+%26+Queers some remixes are better than others. Ministry (band) by another name.

Purgatory Comics (2009) - ??? - says 2012? IMDb 6.4/10

The God's must be crazy (1980) - boring classic that I couldn't finish, IMDb 7.3/10 .

See You in the Morning (1989) - TIL interesting 5.8/10 on IMDb.

Wild Rebels (1967) - TIL interesting 2.3/10 on IMDb.

Dream On! (1981) - TIL interesting 7.6/10 on IMDb.

Middle Men (2009) - I feel like I saw it but don't remember a thing.

Notes:

  • Start compiling holiday lists. (Halloween, Xmas, New Years, July 4, Bastille Day, etc)

  • Star Wars Xmas Special

  • IMDb for all its faults is a good gauge. Movies always rank lower than TV series because after the first episode folks won't stick with it if they don't like it thus, people who like it stick with it and keep rating it.

  • Requests? (The Cook, The Thief, His Wife, Her Lover; Prospero's Notes; Cyrano De Bergerac; Eraser Head, Pink Flamingos, The Night Porter, Alphaville, CQ, After Hours, Baraka, Samsara, Network, The Grapes Of Wrath, The Fall (2006), Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead, Dead Man, Three Days Of The Condor, Exotica, Vanilla Sky, etc. More: https://infogalactic.com/info/Tigole#Requests)

  • Themes? Genres? Moods? Etc.?

  • Series? On another night? (The Little Drummer Girl)

  • Goals? Sometimes it's to have fun in chat. But some movies are just too good to make fun of. Then again, some tastes, that depend on many factors, may take in a movie differently under different circumstances. Sometimes it's nice to just watch.

  • Film/media analysis? Filmmaking and/or propaganda analysis? Perhaps on another night?

I added those movies to the big list. I already had The Cook, Thief, Wife, Lover, and also After Hours. I still need to add your larger list.

Larry thinks I don't take requests because I have my own list. The list is people's requests. But a few people think I should go off of their list exclusively. If I respect one person's requests I need to respect all. And it's at about 500 movies. So they go into a larger list and then I make polls off of it.

Requests?

Yeah he just proposes all of them himself but on the other hand I get how he wants to get through his own list. I do the selection for one movie night. There are so many movies to get through and I don't even watch them on a weekly basis so I have to be selective. I don't even give a list usually, I just propose something and see if people agree.

After Hours

My fav Scorsese. Real cult classic.

I've been thinking: the kind of film I like isn't necessarily classics, and it isn't always arthouse that I like the most, since it includes really experimental shit that you have to exert yourself to like. It's actually cult classics that I tend to like the most. Those, and simply a good independent drama film. I also like some of the more high-brow Hollywood shit like Midsomar. That's where depth and accessibility come together. (Although it isn't like there are many accessible and engaging classics.)

You know so many movies... You are the movie master.

Btw Rotten Tomatoes audience polls are much better imo. They are more into arthouse but they don't have a political bias (unlike the critics on whose score the Tomatometer is based).

The cook the theif his wife and her lover is most excellent. Saw that for a film class i took back in the day. Still stuck with me.

I agree with Jason Cars, we should have fun in chat options and games to play while watching films. Is there a way to implement a random dice roller or something? Otherwise, we could do a video bingo, that would be fun for those that are drinking. I dunno what you can get away with using the inline scripting. It sounds lame but it may get more of the lurkers to stop lurking, and it would distinguish your channel from voat movie night.

That's a good idea. The question is if I should prepare something or if I can do something on the fly. I'll get something going.

I don't find it on voat.xyz. Do you mean that voat to begin with?

i did mean voat. https://cytu.be/r/MovieGoats I think, seems to check out, cyclops is there. Ask if he is still mexican and if he only has one eye, if the answer is yes then ask if he knows what happened to TurdLord5000, as i miss him. That is all.
