All you can do is try to make a differencial. Not a differencial from where you are. That might happen or might not. But a differencial between where you would have ended up if you did nothing and if you did something to better it. Doing something, anything, to improve your life will always produce a positive differencial in that regard. Unless you really choose something stupid to work on.

Hope is not the problem.

Expectations are.

Whether realistic or not, if you have unmet expectations you'll likely be disappointed, depressed, and/or angry.
The people, circumstances, finances, "leadership", projects, entertainment, etc. do not do this to you.
You and your expectations upset you.

Living with hope and gratitude is a far healthier mindset than expectations and malaise.
