Also one simple trick I use for years: set cookie auto deletion for most news website domains in your browser (it's easy to do in Chrome, but I mostly use Firefox as Tor which already deletes cookies, so I don't know whether it's as easy), and most paywalls would go away if you just open one/two articles per day (two prominent exceptions are WSJ and FT, still need archive.is for those).
