Hey there, my fellow East Asian tunes enthusiasts.
I’ve got these melody fragments stuck in my head from when I was a kid (early 2000s or earlier?), but my memory is fuzzy and I could only salvage part of these songs in terms of partial lyrics or tune sequences or both. I recreated what I could recall using Online Sequencer. If you can help, I would much appreciate it. I can also assist with what I can recall in terms of language and partial lyrics. If you need reference to the era, refer to the songs Too Softhearted by Ritchie Jen and Our Intimate Relationship by Sammi Cheng. My song list doesn’t go any further than the end of 2005. And an extra note of precaution: sometimes these songs use words in at least two different languages. E.G, PreCure the anime sometimes uses Spanish words like “Seniorita” and DECO*27’s Telepathy uses “まじでSTOP 脈ナシハラスメント” = “Seriously, STOP. No chance HARSSMENT.”
Here's what I netted so far in terms of tips from assistance elsewhere (I have to be proactive and use time effectively):
Song 1: (most likely) Mandarin
BPMs: 70BPM
Vocalist(s) gender: female
Words/lyrics recalled: wo sha fay
Additional notes: N/A
Song 2 (SOLVED): (Mandarin or Cantonese)
BPMs: 87BPM
Vocalist(s) gender: male
Words/lyrics recalled: N/A
Additional notes: N/A
Title: 戰場上的快樂聖誕 (Wartime Merry Christmas / Merry Christmas on the Battlefield) Artist: Aaron Kwok 郭富城
Song 3: (Mandarin)
BPMs: 87BPM
Vocalist(s) gender: male or a dark-sounding female
Words/lyrics recalled: wo jin nay/fay
Additional notes: You know Roz from Monsters Inc? Although it sounds female, she's actually voiced by a MALE! And in many animes and some west cartoons, the males are voiced by a female. That's what I'm referring to.
Song 4 (SOLVED): (Mandarin)
BPMs: N/A
Vocalist(s) gender: male
Words/lyrics recalled: N/A
Additional notes: most likely a hip-hop themed song. I'm no music expert, but this is my best guess on the song's genre.
Title: 舊約 Artist: Leon Lai 黎明
Song 5: (Cantonese)
BPMs: 87BPM
Vocalist(s) gender: female
Words/lyrics recalled: a dark female "yeah" at the end of the song
Additional notes: a squeaky toy us used throughout half the song.
Song 6 (SOLVED): (Cantonese)
BPMs: 87BPM
Vocalist(s) gender: female
Words/lyrics recalled: N/A
Additional notes: near the end of the song, the chorus raises a semi tone. Use Crystal Snow by Aqu3ra as a reference on semi tone raise (it raises pitch at 2:57)
Title: 捨不得你 (Can't Let You Go / Shed Not You) Artist: Sammi Cheng 鄭秀文
Song 7: (Mandarin)
BPMs: 70BPM
