New York has strict "double jeopardy" rules and Mangione's lawyers have already filed to have the State case dismissed based on this. The Federal case carries a possible sentence of life in prison without parole, though, so it may not matter.

He did not plead guilty to killing him, only to stalking him. He did confess to killing him while pleading guilty to these charges, though.
