He wants to stabilise or freeze rent increases. He plans a new department of community safety. Faster and free buses are being considered.
Does any of this hurt capitalists? No. Mamdani's success as a supporter of the 99% has gained a lot of attention and support. Why do Americans vote for politicians who are only helping their rich friends and extreme income inequality, with no so-called trickle-down? Mamdani is reversing that - or at least the perception of it at this stage - in NYC.
