I think all the stories about the stones coming from miles away are fake. No there's plenty of huge stones nearby and people just chiseled em down. It's some sort of Freemason symbolism.

They say the ancient Egyptians moved huge blocks of stones hundreds of miles too. They didn't tho the quarries are right nearby and that's why the location was probably chosen. Huge stones are everywhere, it's the bedrock under dirt.
So why make such a weird unnecessary lie? Not sure but id suggest occult symbolism.
That's one excuse of many. It can't account for all of them. There are so many sites, and much on private land. Doing a proper dig not only requires funding that is heavily controlled serving political interests, but there's also copious red tape, regulations restricting what can be dug up and how, and other pressures, limits, and social levers of power. There are greater forces at work keeping secrets and soughing confusion.
Apparently a lot of the stones come from different directions. Basically each of the cardnal direction from there. It would be hard for glaciers to move stones from every direction.
But to me the crazy bit is taking "awe" at their placement and alignment with atronomical phenominon, since their current placement was done in the 1900s.
Indeed. I haven't dived in to learn why they were erected that way, how they came to their conclusions, what they align with, etc.
There are big stones and smaller stones. The smaller ones are still freaking heavy. I don't remember which was which, but the glacier theory seemed the most plausible for most of the foreign stones, IIRC.
Modern pop archeology can be frustratingly daft, unimaginative, and impractical, as well as politically and historically constrained.

Also, why not investigate the many mounds (maybe pyramids?) in North America, England, etc.?
