Auth-right tend to think they are the freedom party. But they just lash out at anything that offends them, the same as the left does. And they're offended if told they don't know how freedom works or that they don't have it.
Eh, it's more complicated than that. Certainly, there are authoritarians on the right (typically the more loudly religious). But there is also Texas culture, which (in my experience) is significantly less nasty than the rust belt midwest, but has unpleasant features like an assumption that everybody has the right to nose into everybody else's business, along with other things predictible from the fact that (as a friend who is a lifelong Texan has put it), Texas is a covert matriarchy. Plus, keep in mind, the awful LBJ was a lefty, and also a product of Texas.
Ultimately, it's less "freedom by label" than a lack of real principle (which, alas, is everywhere). People are for freedom in the things they care about, and then "Yeah, but I don't care about that" syndrome kicks in, or else they carve out an exception so they can be busybodies. Blue laws remain in force from a century ago, mostly by inertia, I think.
