If you're using a custom Android ROM like GrapheneOS you won't be affected. Still worth spreading the word and pushing back though.

Can't really use anything custom, can't even root my android due to some apps not working and being mandatory for even the simplest of things like banking or signing electronic documents.

They're locking down harder and harder, we just need something like stop killing games movement but for freedom.

It was called open source. But then 8/10ths of open source got co-opted by corporations to the point that open source just means doing free work for corporations in hopes of getting a resume. It should mean root everything and distribute code on our own self hosted git repositories.

I don't know how they convinced the most recent tech generation that being an AWS shill is more cool than Julian Assange and torrenting. It time for us to bring the cypherpunk culture back.

I had a rad cyberpunk dream the other night and mean to integrate some of the ideas and feels into the cyberpunk screenplay I barely started a few years ago.

Might be something worth open-co-developing, the way he wrote The Martian and Project Hail Mary. Except I'd be more anti-political too of course.

Yes. It greatly reduces the choice. All the custom roms beside graphene break Androids security model in how they replace Google services which is a painful thing to do. Even phones with official android seem acceptable except that if Google can push this shit, they can push any kind of spyware and you won't be able to resist it. During lockdowns some shit about covid appeared in my settings screen, that's when I first noticed. I have a pixel running grapheneos however I miss the tactility of a physical keyboard. I want to get the Clicks Communicator however there's nothing about an open bootloader. It's a cucked device.

Might as well own an iPhone.

Exactly. But I do think the year of the Linux phone is just a year or two out. With AI we can iterate through all the interface improvements that are needed quickly. If AI is good at anything right now it's pumping out interface. In terms of system, the job is already done.

But not only would we need a good phone DE, or several. Every common app would need alternate mobile heads. Again, something AI could pump out easily. A single dedicated developer could pump out 50 mobile heads for exist applications in a year. And if he documents his workflow people can replicate it to work through the 1000s of remaining linux applications faster.

But who is going to dedicate the time? And who is going to donate to him? If we can figure those two parts out the Linux phone will happen.

Crowdfunding them up ahead maybe?
