AI Metadata Cleaner is a free in-browser utility that inspects and strips hidden file metadata without uploading the file. Processing stays on your machine through WebAssembly, so the file is not sent to a server. There is no account. The cleaner is 100% free and runs locally in the browser.
It looks for the blocks that travel beside the pixels. Those blocks include camera EXIF, GPS coordinates, XMP, IPTC, C2PA Content Credentials stored as JUMBF container markers, and generator tags written by Stable Diffusion, Midjourney, GPT-Image-2, and Veo 3. A read-only inspector lists what is present before you remove anything.
Supported Formats
Still images: JPEG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, and HEIC. Typical finds are EXIF, GPS, XMP, IPTC, and PNG text chunks such as Stable Diffusion or ComfyUI parameters.
Video: MP4, MOV, and WebM. Container metadata is rewritten in the browser with FFmpeg.wasm.
Documents: PDF author fields, XMP, and document properties are rewritten locally.
Camera RAW: DNG, CR2, NEF, and ARW are handled through LibRaw WebAssembly.
Batch: up to 20 files, then a one-click ZIP of the cleaned copies.
Step-by-step Workflow
Open the site in a current desktop browser. No extension and no account are required.
Drop one file, or up to twenty, onto the page. Decoding happens in WebAssembly in that tab. The product does not upload the original.
Read the inspector. It lists EXIF camera fields, GPS, XMP, IPTC, C2PA or JUMBF markers, and known AI generator tags when those tags live in the container.
Choose strip. Container metadata is removed or rewritten. For still images, an optional canvas re-encode can rebuild a fresh file when you want a new container instead of an in-place edit.
Download the result, or export a ZIP after a batch. Compare the before and after listing if you want a receipt of which blocks left the file.
Stripping a container is not the same as washing pixels. AI Metadata Cleaner removes container-level metadata and C2PA/JUMBF markers. Pixel-domain SynthID watermarks are detected and explained, but they are not removed, because those marks sit in the image itself rather than in EXIF, XMP, or a JUMBF box. The tool also does not control how a social network later labels an upload.
FAQ
Does the file leave the browser?
No. Inspection and stripping run locally. The cleaner does not ask you to upload the original to a server.
Which AI tags are recognized?
Stable Diffusion and ComfyUI parameter chunks are detected, along with container tags associated with Midjourney, GPT-Image-2, and Veo 3, when those tags are stored as metadata instead of being painted into pixels.
Is GPS removal separate from a full strip?
A full strip clears EXIF, GPS, XMP, IPTC, and supported C2PA markers together. The GPS page is the narrower workflow when coordinates are the only field you care about.
Is there a paid tier?
No. The cleaner is free, with no signup wall and no payment required to strip a file.

When location is the only worry, use the Free Browser-Based GPS Geolocation & Privacy Metadata Remover. That page focuses on coordinate tags in photos and video rather than a full provenance strip.
