It almost seemed as though the Taliban had Joe over a barrel of some kind. Like he was being blackmailed. Not just with the deadline, but how it was executed.
One month to get out of Afghanistan really isn't that bad. But he effectively de-activated the military on day one, got the military out first, and then civilians. It seems like a more rational way to go would be to have your military still active until the day they leave. Use it to secure the airport and surrounding area. Get all civilian personnel out immediately, then egress the military through the airport. That would give you a full month to also get any large pallets of cash out.
