- Angelfire provides hosting starting at $1/month although that plan features ads. For static websites. Not very attractive, just the idea of having a site on that domain name is cool. This host exists since the '90s.

SDF is up now, but before I can finish my password it disconnects on me using Putty and SSH.
Hm idk hope you can get it resolved. Anyway, good choice. Here's a list of their plans. Static websites for free and with a one-time $36 donation you can get "full CGI access for php, perl, python, ruby" although this doesn't include database access which is $30 anually and it has to be on one of their subdomains. Pointing your own domain name to it is quite expensive. But for simple needs it's a cool host.
I get the feeling you have to read the text closely. Maybe you think you're signing up while you're in the login part and it d/cs you because it doesn't recognize your username/password.

Cloudflare hosts static websites for free too.
This is about the smallweb, independent spirit, decentralization, etc. Quite the opposite of what clownflare is. I suppose it empowers the average joe to resist DDOS attacks but they have too big a market share. I believe there are alternatives.
