I guess I'm not putting this in MatrixDev because this isn't really about Matrix.
As you guys might know the image host I'm running is a multi-host / host-multiplexer.
The idea is if you upload to it your image is backed up to multiple locations.
Of course I want to add more hosts so if any of you know of some good ones that are easy to upload to via script let me know.
All Greek to me.
Explain like I'm 5. And/or feel free to document and organize your project on Projex - or GitLab or GitHub or any place that isn't compromised. (Think of it like self-promotion that someone may one day even read or even greatly appreciate.) I've been wanting to start notes about Gvid and Matrix, but I don't know Apple from agent orange - or where to start - or what's even useful to share/know. I started http://SaidIt.net/s/SaidIt/wiki to help a long time ago (modified since by M7D3etc.) - but I had more time, knew more, and had more to draw from.
Sounds like a multi-host / host-multiplexer is a form of decentralization. I don't suppose it would or could be related to or merge with other protocols like IPFS, WebTorrent, BitTorrent, eMule, ZeroNet, I2P, etc. etc. etc. (I have some NameCoin to set up a site on ZeroNet from 2015 or so. It would be nice to link up all our projects on ZeroNet, Tor, OpenCola, etc. eventually - but other priorities first.)
So if you've backed up an image to A, B, C, and D - is there a way for folks to find the others if it's not first available on A and B?
Besides being curious, I'd say feel free to install a multi-host on my VPS2 securely partitioned separately from LeverMind.net. It can be a backup/archive. If either grows too large we can resolve that when we need to. I only have a few limitations...
No CP. (Or other illegal content, whatever that could be. Canada and the world are getting stupid, so we may need further discussions about the specific taboo lines I am willing to cross regardless of what's "legal".)
I'd want it to be a backup/archive that is fully shared and fully accessible - along with the ability to backup/archive/sync locally (ideally automatically) to my own LAN vault.
I'd want to keep records of the storage and bandwidth and be warned if approaching hard or expensive limits so prudent action could be taken to stop, proceed, or change course.
It would also be great if we could backup/archive/sync/share Projex.Wiki and LeverMind.net (but not private content like PMs, passwords, admin stuff, etc.). Unless there's another way I guess it would be a static archive rather than interactive. I still hope to get a copy of SaidIt (as well as the linked articles, images, videos, etc.) to share and keep online, even if all locked off - rather than have it die forever forgotten. Perhaps eventually there might be a way for dead forums to have afterlife comments. (Sharing a downloadable version is the closes MediaWiki will ever get to being distribute/decentralized - better than nothing.)
There may be more limitation issues, but I can't think of any at the moment. It should all be common sense. As easy as it all sounds, I know none of it is fast or easy or free. Or appreciated.
Whatever you decide and/or do, thank you!
