For people seeing this from the outside, a party is like a lemmy instance without needing to host anything.

I think the off the bat quality of these parties has proven that the new standard filter scheme I used for them is now the established sane default. Though still anything can be done for a party.

Some back story: I moved party configs from being a series of files with logic hard coded in the site for how to read them, to a single code file for each party that exports functions that can then read config files at their leisure. This opened up what parties can do and what logic they do. This moved a party's filters from being a setup where the party specifies if either white list mode or black list mode is applied per the categories of [topics,users,domains,origins,type,tags] to being able to do literally anything. But with anything possible it raised the question; Well what specifically as a reasonable example?

Well I think I found it.

(+[white topics] +[origin])-([preferred exceptions]).

So the go to way to setup a party will be pick the subs and subtract exceptions if needed. The +origin part means if something is submitted from that party, even to a non-default sub for that party, it will show.

This makes a party it's own space with unlimited subs, but it will pull in content from the broader universe if it went into certain related subs.

I think I've mostly nailed the default subs for both, but I could always use a second eye.

For GameDev we have: Gaming, GameDev, Programming, Projects, MatrixDev, GameArt, LevelDesign

For Culture we have: Books, Film, Television, Movies, MusicVideos, Gaming, OldVideos, Food, Cooking, Poetry, Art, Photography, Travel, 80s, 90s, 2000s, 70s, 60s, 50s.

I'm pretty happy with it and want to be a bit selective. If any communities form within those parties all their submissions will be included anyway. But maybe there is a sub or two I'll end up kicking myself for not including.

Maybe an example for GameDev, Animation?

Notice the inclusion of both Film and Movies. Having infinite subs means content can be scattered. So synonyms can be useful. I guess the real measure if we need the synonym is, have we actually posted to it and do we post to both about equally.
