Rust appears to be a very ambitious language that is for now only practical for a small range of applications. From what I've heard they still need to sort out async and the compounding complexity of mixing async with other impure types of operations. So for now, most apps will be more easily made in other languages.
Some Rust advocates seem to want to inject Rust into projects (Linux) to make that project dependent on Rust; then in order for that project to survive, that project must contribute to the success of Rust. They claim that Rust is the "moral" choice. Rust or death. Death before detransition. These are the types of Rust advocates that get called cultists.
