I didn't realize they were that old, I know they were on TV in the early 80's. Early 60's, Wow! Leave it to America to scavenge ideas from elsewhere and repackage & present it as new & groundbreaking!

I didn't know The Smurfs was set in South America. I never thought of them as some kind of indigenous pygmy but I guess that's what they are.

It's supposed to be set somewhere in Europe during medieval times. It's a comic book for kids so I wouldn't read too much into it. It was part of my childhood so I'll always have a certain fondness for the little blue guys except for the CGI crap they produced recently.

That would make sense. For some reason the zoom at the beginning went to basically the head of the Amazon.
